Do you find your stroke changing as you change the rate - is your stroke (path the handle takes / sequence) different at 20spm compared to 30spm Question

In theory it shouldn't but I believe that in 99% of people it will.

I honestly dont think low rate is fully about grooving a technique as it is about improving specific muscular endurance.

The essence of Eddie's marathon training is to match a pace change with a stroke rate change. Having plugged in some HR numbers you get a "default marathon", M, HM, 10K and 5K pace/stroke rate as output. So for me 2:10.0 or slower @ 18-22spm, 2:07.0-2:03.5 @ 20-22, 2:03.5-2:00.5 @ 22-24, 2:00.5-1:58.0 @ 24-26 and 1:58.0-1:55.0 @ 26-28. (There's also a HR range to go with each of those pace/stroke rates.)

There's always going to be a difference in stroke due to the ever reducing time (quicker drive / shorter recovery), but in terms of distance per stroke it comes out about even. (I'll leave it for you to do the SPI stuff if it interests you.)

Eddie's plan is a free 44 page download from http://fletchersportscience.co.uk/uploads/img4731d3f5392f41.pdf
