Pete Marston's diary
I decided to row a HM today, so set the erg up out on the patio. For some reason I decided to start off at pb pace and see how it felt, or at least what I thought was pb pace - 1:46.2.
So I set off just holding the average on 1:46.2, but the projected pace didn't seem right. I thought my pb was 74:58, and the projected time was sitting down around 74:20 or so. I didn't think I was quite in mental form (perhaps physical form) of worrying my HM pb anyway, so going a good half second under pace was going to too much.
I called it a good session at the 10k point, still at 1:46.2 average. Really didn't fancy the thought of another 11k at that pace!
Yesterday I did 3 x 1500m @ 1:39.7, 1:39.7 and 1:36.9. Was supposed to be 5 reps really, but my head wasn't in it at all yesterday so did the third rep faster and stopped there.
Not really feeling the motivation to push too hard at the moment to be honest.

Walk in the sun
As the weather is so nice today I decided that rather than going and sitting in the gym I'd get out in the sunshine. So sent Janice an email (as she's not in work today) and we went for a brisk hour walk around Fleet pond. Apart from dodging the model aircraft flyers, the many crazy dogs and their walkers, and the mud, it was much more enjoyable to sitting on the erg for 10k.
I don't think anyone in the office noticed I was gone for an hour, so maybe I'll still sneak in that 10k later in the afternoon.
But for now I will work.

Re: Pete Marston's diary
It was a choice between doing something and nothing today, and it could have gone either way. Lunchtime was out as I had to "wine and dine" some customers, ok, so a pub beer garden for a burger and a couple of beers - I have laid back customers. So two pints of 1664 and a burger and chips perhap not ideal fuel for erging later on.
So I decided why not do a 7777m at 5.30pm?
7777m = 26:55.7 / 1:43.8 / 28
1111m split:
1:43.2 / 30
1:44.0 / 29
1:44.3 / 28
1:44.4 / 28
1:44.3 / 29
1:44.3 / 28
1:42.2 / 30
I felt a little bit sick before, a little bit sick during, and a little bit sick after. I seem to be in that mental place at the moment though where I can just sit down with a target and do it, if it's physically possible. No mental doubts, never a thought of stopping. A good place to be. Some days are like that, others aren't. Just need to make race days one of those days, that's the trick.

Just because I don't think I've done this session before, and didn't want to just do easy distance when I'll not be training the next two days before the Munich race on Saturday.

Re: Pete Marston's diary
Kris - I was thinking of just sitting on 1:45's for Munich, but now I've done the CTC 7777m at 1:43.8 maybe I can go a little faster. It is only 3mins more after all.
So certainly the aim is not to pull slower than 1:45 at all. Faster than that really depends both on the competition, and the heat. I've not done a distance piece without a c-breeze in a long time, so I'm hoping the venue is cool. If there are people faster than 1:45 I'll try to go faster.

2500m warm up @ 1:52.1 / 24
8 x 500m = 1:32.7 / 35 average
1:32.8 / 34
1:32.8 / 34
1:32.8 / 34
1:32.8 / 34
1:32.8 / 35
1:32.7 / 36
1:32.6 / 36
1:32.7 / 36
I did no speed intervals in the run up to the Munich race last weekend, which made this a tough re-introduction today.
